Our Chinese Homestay

We had the opportunity to host a Chinese scholar from Berkeley this past weekend, and it was a lot of fun! I picked up Sara on Friday evening from church and brought her back here and asked her questions about China, and her family.  She's from the Harmin area in China, and she's married and has an 8 year old daughter back in China.  She's a professor at a university in China and she's studying linguistics at Berkeley.  Saturday morning I made a good American breakfast of pancakes and eggs and then met at church with the rest of the students and their hosts.  We went to Fiscalini Dairy in Salida and was given a tour of the dairy, and then sampled a few of the cheeses that they make there.  All of the students loved Brooklynne and took a ton of pictures of her and kept saying she was a super star, it was very sweet!

Irene delivered Brooklynne

After the dairy we drove to Orangeblossom recreation area by the Stanislaus River for a picnic lunch and got to know Sara a little better.  Matt played a little baseball with some of the guys after lunch and Sara held Brooklynne the entire time, which Brooklynne enjoyed!

After that we went to Burchell Nursery where Mr. Burchell showed how they graft trees; it was quite interesting.  He gave us a tour of the warehouse where they keep all the trees about to be shipped out.

After the nursery we went to Wally and Lydia Carroll's house for line dancing and an ice cream social.   The Carrolls were so kind to open their house, and we had a wonderful time and the ice cream was delicious.

We came back to our house that evening and I made dinner.  Sunday morning we went to church and then had a potluck afterwards with all the students, had some singing time, and they did a few performances for us and then we had to say goodbye.  We were so blessed to have Sara at our house for a few days.
